This month, we have chosen Wild Tripel Hop by De Brabandere. This small brewery, located in Bavikhove, has been ran by the same family since it was first founded in 1894, which in itself is a great achievement. They produce an amazing range of Belgian beers, demonstrating the wide and varied styles that exist.

Wild Tripel Hop is a strong, blonde, top-fermented beer that pours clear. The beer referments in the bottle so some sediment can be found. This can either be drunk or not – depending on personal preference. It has a nice foamy head, smells of fresh citrus and has a pleasant bitter and sourish aftertaste. It consists of 15% pure foeder beer that has been aging in French oak barrels for two years. It is blended with Petrus Tripel and two American hops, namely Cascade and Amarillo. It is one of two of their Brewmaster’s selection beers. Wild Tripel Hop has an ABV of 8% and comes in 33cl sized bottles. We sell the beers individually but as this month’s special offer, we are offering a free Petrus glass with every twenty bottles purchased.

We stock most of De Brabandere’s range of exceptional beers. Their main brands are Bavik, Petrus, Wittekerke and Kwaremont. If you enjoy drinking light Belgian lagers, such as Jupiler and Vedett Pilsner, then you should definitely try Bavik Super Pils. It is an unpasteurised, clear lager, made only from aroma hops. It has recently won numerous beer awards and is becoming increasingly popular. In 2021, Bavik Super Pils was voted Belgium’s Best Pilsner at the World Beer Awards. Bavik Super Pils is available in 33cl cans. This keeps the beer fresher for longer and is environmentally friendly as well, not to mention easier and safer to transport.

If, on the other hand, you like darker beers, Petrus is the brand for you! They brew Petrus Dubbel and Petrus Roodbruin. Petrus Dubbel is a dark brown beer that is full-bodied. Six different malts are used to brew this strong dark Belgian beer, resulting in a characterful and well-balanced beer. Petrus Roodbruin is a typical Flemish sour dark brown/reddish beer. Fermented beer is blended with 33% oak aged beer to produce this acidic beer.

De Brabandere also brews two fruit flavoured beers – Wittekerke Rose and Petrus Aged Red. Unlike a lot of fruit flavoured beers, Petrus Red is 8.5% ABV. It is a cherry beer but has a refreshingly sour taste. In 2020, it was awarded a silver medal at the World Beer Awards for the category of Best Belgian Fruit Beer. Petrus Aged Red is part of our Award Winners Mixed Case.

De Brabandere even caters for those who don’t drink alcohol. Kwaremont 0.3 is their non-alcoholic beer. Again, this is available to buy by the bottle or is part of our Alcohol Free Mixed Case. This family-run brewery really does cater for all tastebuds and is a great example of beer craftmanship.
