16th June is Father’s Day – a day to celebrate all dads and father figures, who are in your life. There’s only so many pairs of socks that a person needs so why not treat your dad to something he will really enjoy and appreciate this year – beer! It is the Euros, after all too!

This year, we have teamed up with Swinkels Family Brewers to put together a Father’s Day La Trappe Blond beer case. This includes six bottles of La Trappe Blond beer and a free La Trappe beer glass. If your dad enjoys drinking blond ales, then he will really enjoy La Trappe Blond. It is a Dutch, Trappist beer, brewed at Brouwerij de Koningshoeven in Berkel-Enschot, The Netherlands, by Monks. La Trappe Blond has an ABV of 6.5%. It is a blond ale, made from water, malted barley, glucose syrup, hop and yeast. It has won multiple beer awards over the years.

What is a Trappist beer? Trappist beer are beers that are brewed by Trappist Monks within the walls of a monastery. A Trappist beer must meet certain strict criteria in order to be described as a Trappist beer, set out by the International Trappist Association. These are listed below…

  1. Brewed within a Trappist Monastery: The beer must be brewed within the walls of a Trappist monastery, either by the Monks themselves or under their supervision.
  2. Non-Profit Purpose: The brewery must be of secondary importance within the monastery, and it should not be the primary focus of the monastic life. The revenues from the sales are used to cover the living expenses of the monks and maintenance of the monastery. The remaining profits are donated to charity and social work.
  3. Strict Quality Standards: The brewing must be done in accordance with strict quality standards to maintain the authenticity and quality of the beer.
