Brasserie D’Achouffe is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. It is owned by two brothers and started off at the family’s farm located in Vallée des Fées (Valley of the Fairies). Over the past 40 years, it has grown considerably and now has 9 beers and 75 employees.

It has become an iconic brand within the beer industry thanks to their gnome characters that can be found on all of the Chouffe bottles. Did you know a different gnome represents each beer and they all have names?

Marcel is the gnome found on La Chouffe. Malcolm is the gnome on McChouffe. Matthew can be found on Chouffe Houblon and Micheline represents Cherry Chouffe.

We often get asked what the word CHOUFFE means and the answer is simple – it’s a made up word by the brothers who own the brewery, however most Belgian beer drinkers associate it with the beers with the gnomes on.

Another interesting fact – Brasserie D’Achouffe is part of the Duvel Moortgat group of breweries, alongside Duvel, Vedett, Liefmans, Maredsous and De Koninck.

To celebrate the brewery’s 40th birthday, they have created a new limited edition birthday beer called Chouffe 40. It is available in 33cl bottles and can be purchased individually via this link. It is a light, refreshing Belgian blond beer with an ABV of 5.6%. This makes it an ideal summer drink – not too strong but full of character. You’ll find all the gnomes on the label enjoying themselves as they turn 40.

Brasserie D’Achouffe is also marking this special occasion with a new gift pack, a new beer glass and a collector’s edition magnum bottle. Hopefully they will make it to the UK soon…

If you are new to Chouffe beers, then you can try them from our website. No matter what you like to drink, we’re sure there’s a beer for you!

La Chouffe and Houblon are both strong blond beers. La Chouffe has an ABV of 8% whereas Chouffe Houblon is 9% and was the first Belgian IPA to be brewed. Both have won numerous beer awards.

McChouffe is a dark beer with an ABV of 8%.

Cherry Chouffe is – you guessed it – a cherry flavoured beer, however don’t put it in the same category as other cherry beers! This is also 8% ABV.

Chouffe Blanche is a Belgian wheat beer.

In winter, we also stock N’ice Chouffe, which is a dark, strong, winter beer with an ABV of 10%.

All of the above are available to purchase by the bottle so you can pick and choose. If you are looking for a beer gift for a Chouffe lover, then we also stock their gift packs and some 75cl bottles – stock depending.

If you enjoy cooking with beers, the Brasserie D’Achouffe website has a full section of recipes for you to make. We would love to know which ones you’ve tried. If you’re visiting Belgium, you can also go on their brewery tour, which we’re sure you’ll find interesting.
