Chimay Grande Reserve Brandy

We, at The Belgian Beer Company, are very excited to receive a beer delivery this week containing the brand new Chimay Grande Reserve Brandy Edition 2024. Since 2015, the Scourmont Abbey has been brewing a barrel fermented version of the Chimay Blue Trappist beer. Each year, the Trappist brewery uses different barrels, which gives the beer a different taste. This year’s edition has been fermenting in Brandy barrels, sourced from one of the oldest wine regions in the world, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Chimay Grande Reserve Brandy 2024 is a strong, delicious, dark Trappist beer with an ABV of 10.5%. This special brew has a velvety texture of caramel and dried fruits that have been blended with toasted hazelnuts. It undergoes fermentation three times, which gives it exceptional flavours and a complex taste. As is the case with most dark beers, it is best served at 10-12 degrees Celsius. This special edition beer comes in 75cl bottles so it’s the perfect beer to share with your friend or loved one this autumn. It would also make the ideal beer gift for a beer connoisseur.

The History of Scourmont Abbey and the Chimay Trappist beers

Scourmont Abbey has been the home of the Chimay Monks since 1850 and the Chimay Trappist beers are still brewed here. The Chimay beer range consists of the following:

Chimay Blue is a popular Belgian Trappist beer that is copper-brown in colour and has a creamy foam head and slightly bitter taste. It has an ABV of 9%.

Chimay White is the driest of the Chimay beers and light orange in colour. It is otherwise known as Chimay Triple and has an ABV of 8%.

Chimay Red is a dark Trappist beer that is the least strong compared to Chimay White and Chimay Blue (7% ABV). It’s full bodied and smells of light fruity apricots.

Chimay Gold is best served between 6-8 degrees Celsius and is the weakest Chimay Trappist beer with an ABV of 4.8%.

Chimay 150 was first brewed in 2012 to celebrate the brewery’s 150th anniversary. It is a strong, pale blond Trappist beer that, despite its strength (10%), is refreshing, fruity and intense.
