International Women’s Day 2026: Why “Give to Gain” Matters to Me as a Female Founder
By Samantha Goode, Owner of The Belgian Beer Company
Every year on 8th March, the world comes together to celebrate International Women’s Day—a day that recognises the social, cultural, and economic achievements of women while reminding us that the journey toward equality is far from complete.
As the owner of The Belgian Beer Company, a business built around craftsmanship, quality and customer service, this day resonates deeply with me—not just as a woman, but as an entrepreneur navigating an industry that has historically been male-dominated.
This year’s International Women’s Day campaign theme, #GiveToGain, feels particularly meaningful. At its heart, the idea is simple: when we give—whether that’s time, opportunities, encouragement, or resources—we collectively gain stronger communities and more equitable opportunities for women.
Giving Support in Business
Running a business teaches you quickly that success rarely happens in isolation. Behind every founder is a network of people who have shared knowledge, opened doors, offered advice, or simply believed in the vision. www.thebelgianbeercompany.com turns eighteen this year and that has only been possible due to the support I’ve received over the years from not only our amazing customers but also my family, friends and businesses who have continued to believe and support me.
For me, #GiveToGain is a reminder that these small acts of generosity are powerful. In business, giving might mean mentoring another woman starting out, recommending a female-led supplier, or simply amplifying the voices of women in industries where they are underrepresented.
In the beer world, that representation matters. Craft beer culture is evolving, but for many years it was seen primarily through a male lens. Today, more women are brewing, importing, distributing, and leading businesses across the industry. The more we support and champion each other, the faster that progress continues.
Building Community Through Shared Passion
At The Belgian Beer Company, our focus has always been about more than selling great beer—it’s about sharing the stories, heritage, and community behind not only our brand but the many different beer brands we sell. Belgian brewing is rich with tradition, but it’s also full of innovation and creativity, values that resonate strongly with the entrepreneurial spirit.
The #GiveToGain theme reminds me that business communities thrive when we lift each other up. Whether that’s collaborating with other small businesses, supporting independent retailers, or encouraging more women to explore careers in brewing and hospitality, the ripple effect of support is enormous.
When we invest in others, we invest in a stronger industry overall.
Mentorship and Visibility
One of the most powerful ways to “give” is by offering visibility. Sometimes the difference between someone stepping forward or stepping back is simply knowing that someone like them has succeeded before.
As a female founder, I’m conscious that visibility matters. Sharing experiences—both the successes and the inevitable challenges—can help other women see that building a business is possible, even in spaces where they might not have traditionally seen themselves.
Mentorship, advice, and honest conversations about entrepreneurship are all ways we can help the next generation of women thrive.
Raising a Glass to Progress
International Women’s Day isn’t just about celebration—it’s about action. It’s about recognising progress while committing to doing more.
This year, I’ll be raising a glass not only to the incredible women in business, hospitality, and brewing, but to everyone who actively chooses to support them. Because that’s what #GiveToGain is all about: the understanding that when we give opportunities, encouragement, and support, everyone benefits.
Progress isn’t built by individuals alone—it’s built by communities.
So this International Women’s Day, let’s support, mentor, champion, and collaborate. Let’s give generously so that future generations of women in business, brewing, and beyond have even more opportunities to succeed.
Because when women thrive, we all gain. ?
