Beer History:
Beer is one of the oldest drinks in the world and dates back to the 6th millennium BC. It hasn't lost its popularity with over 35 billion gallons being sold each year.
Beer has changed and developed through the years and now there is a wide choice to choose from. In Belgium alone, there are wheat beers, lambic, trappist, blond beers, dark, abbey beers, amber, brown ales, saison, champagne beer, dubbel, triple, Christmas beers, Flemish red, golden ales, pils, oud bruin, hop-accentuated beers, scotch, stout and winter beers.
"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

Beer of the Month:
SEPTEMBER 2011 - TARAS BOULBA
Not only do we love the beer label, but this blonde, hoppy ale from the De la Senne Brewery is very enjoyable and not too strong at just 4.5% ABV.
The beer label tells a story... It depicts a young Flemish man who had married a French-speaking Wallonian girl and her father, named Taras Boulba, wasn't very happy about it!
AUGUST 2011 - FLORIS NINKEBERRY
It's summertime and there is nothing more refreshing to drink than a Belgian fruit flavoured beer. We've chosen the Ninkeberry beer for August's Beer of the Month as it's unique!
Floris Ninkeberry is a Belgian wheat beer blended with exotic fruits so has a golden yellow and cloudy appearance. It smells of peach, mango, apricot and passion fruit. It has an ABV of 3.9%, comes in 33cl bottles and is made by the Huyghe Brewery.
This brewery was founded in 1906 by Leon Huyghe and is located in Melle in East Flanders. It not only brews the Floris range but also Delirium Tremens and many more.
This beer can be bought in crates of 24 or individually. We also stock the Florisgaarden glasses.
JULY 2011 - SCHNEIDER AVENTINUS
This German beer is the oldest wheat doppelbock and has been in production since 1907. It is brewed in Bavaria at the G. Schneider & Sohn brewery. It has an alcohol content of 8.2% and comes in bottles of 50cl. It was named after the Bavarian historian Johannes Aventinus and his picture can be found on the label. The colour and strength of the beer take people by surprise as wheat beers are normally light in colour and weak. This, on the other hand, is dark and strong!
It is unpasteurised, unfiltered and top fermented. It goes well with typical German cuisine, grilled meat and chocolate desserts. The matching glass is no ordinary Scheider glass as it has an unusual shape.
JUNE 2011 - OUDE KRIEK OUD BEERSEL
This cherry flavoured beer is brewed by Oud Beersel, which has been in operation since 1882. The brewery is located in Beersel (hence the name), just 10km from Brussels. It is special because it's one of the last authentic lambic breweries in Belgium.
What is lambic? Well, it's a type of beer that matures up to three years in barrels. To make Oude Kriek Oud Beersel, sour cherries are added to the lambic beer and then it goes through two fermentations.
Oude Kriek Oud Beersel is ruby red in colour and is unique in the fact that it contains approximately 400g of cherries per litre. The beer has no added sugar, artificial flavourings or preservatives. It has an ABV content of 6.5% and smells and tastes of cherries and almonds.
MAY 2011 - KWAK
Pauwel Kwak is a Belgian beer brewed by Bosteels in Buggenhout. It is an amber beer, which is relatively strong at 8.4% ABV. It gets its name from an 18th century innkeeper and brewer.
Kwak is a warming beer with hints of liquorice and a slightly spicy character of coriander and hops. There is a subtle aroma of banana, pineapple and mango. It's best served between 5-6 degrees celsius.
Not only is the Kwak beer delicious, but it's glass makes an interesting talking point too! It looks like a mini-yard of ale and due to having a rounded bottom, comes with a wooden stand. Apparently Pauwel Kwak designed the glass during the 19th century for coachmen who wanted a drink but couldn't leave their coach, although it wasn't launched until the 1980s.
Kwak has won various awards, which comes as no surprise!
We sell Kwak beer, Kwak glasses and Kwak gift packs so why not treat yourself or a friend.
